X-ray photoemission spectrum at the cobalt 2p3/2 core level for a coverage of 0.067 ML Co atop a saturated monolayer of MnTPyP on Au(100), showing two distinguishable features.
Our new paper in Nanoscale is the result of a collaboration between TU Dortmund University, the University of Graz, the University of Trieste, CNR-IOM and the ALBA Synchrotron.

Together, we show how a gold surface guides the formation of an ordered two-dimensional metal–organic framework containing cobalt atoms in two distinct oxidation states. By combining complementary expertise in microscopy, X-ray spectroscopy and theoretical modelling, we reveal how the supporting surface shapes both structure and chemistry, opening perspectives for future catalysis and spintronics.
